Max sentence for Shores man in sex case after murder-for-hire charge

A 70-year-old Indian River Shores man who was facing only one year behind bars in a bizarre “sex slave” case involving a minor has now been sentenced to the maximum 15 years instead after he allegedly attempted to arrange the victim’s contract killing.

Circuit Court Judge Robert Meadows handed down the sentence June 6 against Andrew Mustapick,  director of local business consulting firm Andrew M. Mustapick Enterprises, Inc.

Prosecutors pushed for the maximum sentencing in the sex case after Mustapick was arrested again in May for allegedly plotting to have the victim killed to keep her from testifying against him. He awaits arraignment in the murder-for-hire case and may opt for a jury trial.

Mustapick was originally arrested in September 2021, charged with having sexual relations with a 17-year-old. The victim said she had sex with Mustapick several times starting in 2020 in exchange for Mustapick buying a white 2017 Volkswagen Jetta for her 19-year-old friend.

The victim did not appear at the sentencing, but her Brevard-based attorney Jessica J. Travis read a statement on her behalf saying “therapy and time will not erase the damage that has been done to my life. (Mustapick) wanted me dead. He’s not apologetic or sympathetic. He’s only sorry he got caught. He deserves to be behind bars.”

Mustapick, handcuffed and wearing an orange jail uniform, watched impassively and declined to speak.

In addition to the 15 years in state prison, Meadows ordered Mustapick to pay $500 in court fees. Under the conditions of Mustapick’s original plea agreement, he would have served one year in the Indian River County Jail followed by 10 years of sex-offender probation.

Before the sexual encounters began, Mustapick drew up a contract between him and the minor victim, outlining that she would be his sex slave on Mondays and Fridays for the next five years, authorities said. The contract outlined the hours the girl needed to spend with Mustapick and the sexual acts she was expected to perform.

The teenager drove back to Mustapick’s Indian River Shores residence at least two more times to perform sexual acts, reports show. The 19-year-old did not engage in the acts.

In March, a tip from a relative alerted Indian River County Sheriff’s Office deputies that Mustapick was trying to kill the victim before she could testify. Deputies said Mustapick paid an undercover detective posing as a hit man $40,000 to exhort the woman not to take the stand.

Then, Mustapick offered an additional $50,000 to have her killed if she didn’t comply, sheriff’s officials said. Mustapick met with the “hit man” several times at his Indian River Shores residence.

Body camera footage worn by the undercover detective showed a man identified by deputies as Mustapick saying “It would be easier … cheaper just to (expletive) kill her … right?” On May 5, deputies using surveillance captured Mustapick traveling twice on U.S. 1 to the bridge over the St. Sebastian River and tossing a laptop, hard drive and other electronic items into the water below.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s dive team recovered the items.
