Careers at Vero Beach 32963 Media

About Us

Vero Beach 32963 Media is an independently owned group of three weekly newspapers, plus an online breaking-news website. Founded in 2008 by a former senior Washington Post staffer and United Press International executive, our flagship paper, Vero Beach 32963 is read by one of the most savvy, affluent and well-educated communities in the United States. Teeming with CEOs and CFOs of major corporations, entrepreneurs and successful professionals, Vero’s barrier island is a demanding news market. Our readers want more than formulaic stories that appear in watered-down chain dailies. We strive to offer engaging, informative and thought-provoking stories. We follow the money and hold government accountable for how they spend tax dollars. If you got into journalism to seek the truth and make a difference in your community, that’s all possible in Vero Beach. We are located on Florida’s Treasure Coast, where the climate is mild, the beaches are pristine and a variety of sports and leisure activities are enjoyed year-round. We don’t have snow, but we do have Florida Man and Florida Woman and they always keep things interesting. Adventures await journalists who want to write stories that are the talk of the town.

Current Opportunities:

News Reporter

For this full-time staff position, we are seeking an eager and resourceful journalist to cover a news beat consisting of local government, crime, courts and stories relating to tourism and the business community. The ideal candidate would bring curiosity, enthusiasm and the ability to ask tough questions. Excellent writing skills are a must, as are a willingness to learn new ways of approaching everyday news. As a weekly niche publication with a sophisticated and highly educated audience, we must find unique ways to write the news by digging deeper, or by moving the story forward.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, but not necessarily in journalism.
  • Two years of newsroom experience expected. Daily newspaper experience preferred.
  • New graduates will be considered, with college newspaper experience and ability to learn while writing on deadline.
  • Starting salary $35k to $40k.

Senior News Reporter

For this full-time staff position, we are seeking an experienced, professional print journalist who can be a leader and a mentor in our newsroom, but who strives to constantly improve, even if they’ve been a working reporter for decades. For a reporter with significant experience, this position offers the opportunity to specialize, to hone in on one or two types of hard-news coverage. Enterprise reporting is encouraged. We need a “closer” who can consistently shepherd stories from concept to printed page. As a weekly niche publication with a sophisticated and highly educated audience, we must find unique ways to write the news by digging deeper, or by moving the story forward.

  • Bachelor’s degree and subject-area knowledge (government, healthcare, criminal justice) required.
  • Five or more years of newsroom experience expected, with at least two years at a daily newspaper.
  • Willingness to grow and adapt to different roles, or to increased responsibility in the newsroom.
  • Though Vero Beach is a wonderful place to retire, this is NOT a semi-retirement job (though there is NO age discrimination here).
  • Starting salary $42k to $50k+ commensurate with experience.
